The Greek guitarist, Antigoni Goni enjoys a truly international career. In the past years she has performed throughout the United States, Japan, Portugal, France, England, Holland, Germany, Russia, Mexico, Poland, Belgium and of course her native Greece. Among the highlight of this past summer was an appearance with the Hannover Radio Orchestra in a special concert for the Athens Festival at the famed, Odeon of Herrodes Atticus the 5000 seat amphitheater at the foot of the Acropolis. As well she performed at Festivals in Mexico and Poland. Later this season she will make her orchestral debut in Brussels. She is a professor of Guitar at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, Artist-in -residence for San Francisco Performances and was formerly Chairman of the Guitar Department at Julliard Pre-College Division, and holds positions at Columbia University and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Her career blossomed in the mid 90s after winning the Guitar Foundation of America Competition which resulted in some 65 concerts in North America and contract with Naxos Records for whom she has recorded three highly successful CDs. Over the last several years she has commissioned a number of new works for the guitar most recently “Dialogues” from Augusta Read Thomas as well as work from Sergio Assad and Stanley Silverman. Currently in the pipeline are works by Steven MacKey (for classical guitar and electric guitar) and John Magnussen (for digitally enhanced guitar and actor). Splitting her time between both coasts of this country and between Brussels and Athens, Antigoni Goni is truly a guitarist of the world.
