Nele Delafonteyne (°1980) studied the clarinet with Walter Boeykens, Ivo Lybeert and Raymond Dils at the Royal Flemish Conservatoire of Antwerp. She obtained her Masters Degree for clarinet and chamber music with great distinction.
In London, she was a private student of Prof. Andrew Marriner, principal clarinettist of the London Symphony Orchestra.
In september 2011 Nele was appointed principal clarinet with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic (Antwerp).
Nele teaches the clarinet at the music academy of Beveren.
As a clarinettist Nele plays regularly with the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Belgium, Oxalys and Het Collectief.
She is a fixed member of the woodwind ensemble I Solisti del Vento.
Nele won prizes in competitions such as Jong Tenuto (Belgium), The International Clarinet and Piano Competition (Bucharest), Axion Classics (Dexia Bank Belgium).
She was selected for The International Carl Maria von Weber Clarinet Contest (Germany) and attended master classes with Sabine Meyer, Pascal Moragues, Sjef Douwes.
From 2003-2005 she was principal clarinet with the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and played with Bernard Haitink, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Lorin Maazel and Vladimir Ashkenazy.
