Toon Fret

Toon Fret is known as flutist of Oxalys and Het Collectief, Belgian chamber music ensembles of international stature. Since 2011, he has formed a duo with pianist Veronika Iltchenko, with whom he recorded three CDs.
Although he mainly presents himself as a chamber musician, he can also be heard as a soloist with various orchestras

He can present a very wide repertoire from early music (as a traverso player) over the ‘iron’ chamber music repertoire to contemporary music, where he has been involved in numerous creations. The main body of his repertoire is the playground of symbolist and expressionist music, where the search for the most pertinent timbres for this is the essence of his artistic development.

He has performed on the most important stages in Europe, America and Asia. His more than 30 CD recordings were enthusiastically received in various international magazines, such as Diapason, Classica or BBC Music Magazine.

Toon Fret studied in Brussels, Paris, Maastricht and Basel with G. Van Riet, R.Kravanja, M. Lefebvre, B. Kuijken, Ida Ribera and P-L Graf. He himself is professor of flute and chamber music at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège, teacher of flute at the Stedelijk Conservatorium Leuven, teacher of flute at the Kunsthumaniora van het Lemmensinstituut Leuven and teacher at the LUCA School of Arts Leuven.
